چکیده

1. The use of iso-osmolar contrast agents (2). 2. Minimization of the radiocontrast dose employed (3) (e.g., biplane imaging and echocardiography in place of contrast ventriculography). 3. Maximum 4-h fast prior to contrast exposure to prevent salt and water depletion. 4. Cessation of potentially nephrotoxic drugs prior to contrast exposure and reinstitution when renal function has been shown to be stable. 5. Assessment of renal function three days’ postprocedure.

Increased myocardial NADPH oxidase activity in human heart failure.

OBJECTIVES This study was designed to investigate whether nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide 3-phosphate (reduced form) (NADPH) oxidase is expressed in the human heart and whether it contributes to reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in heart failure. BACKGROUND A phagocyte-type NADPH oxidase complex is a major source of ROS in the vasculature and is implicated in the pathophysiology of h...

Mycophenolate acid inhibits endothelial NAD(P)H oxidase activity and superoxide formation by a Rac1-dependent mechanism.

Endothelial dysfunction precedes hypertension and atherosclerosis and predicts cardiac allograft vasculopathy and death in heart transplant recipients. Endothelial overproduction of reactive oxygen species, such as superoxide anions produced by NAD(P)H oxidase, induces endothelial dysfunction. Because immunosuppressive drugs have been associated with increased reactive oxygen species production...

Coronary artery superoxide production and nox isoform expression in human coronary artery disease.

BACKGROUND Oxidative stress plays important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD). We aimed to determine the sources and selected molecular mechanisms of oxidative stress in CAD. METHODS AND RESULTS We examined basal and NAD(P)H oxidase-mediated superoxide (O2*-) production using lucigenin chemiluminescence, ferricytochrome c and dihydroethidium fluores...

Critical Role of the NAD(P)H Oxidase Subunit p47 for Left Ventricular Remodeling/Dysfunction and Survival After Myocardial Infarction

Accumulating evidence suggests a critical role of increased reactive oxygen species production for left ventricular (LV) remodeling and dysfunction after myocardial infarction (MI). An increased myocardial activity of the NAD(P)H oxidase, a major oxidant enzyme system, has been observed in human heart failure; however, the role of the NAD(P)H oxidase for LV remodeling and dysfunction after MI r...
